1860s
The history of AH Garner began in the city of Nottingham with a single engineer with a particular speciality in blacksmithery and forging. An original set of hand-forged iron gates bearing the AH Garner name still exist in Nottingham today.
1940s
The company upscaled from a small workshop to a factory on Castle Meadow Road in Nottingham, which is now the HMRC Tax Office.
1960s
Jerzy Lewandowski – ‘George’ to his friends – joined as a business partner in 1965. The company began to carry out more machining and developed an equipped machine shop. Towards the end of the decade, we received our first contract to manufacture hydraulic components and our transition into hydraulic cylinders began.
1970s
AH Garner relocated to the company’s current location in order to expand facilities. The site originally stood at a size of 10-12,000ft², and through continuous investment, today it has expanded to 30,000ft². The partners also owned a separate sheet metal business, Metal Mark Engineering, which remained at the Castle Meadow Road premises. By mid 70s, AH Garner started manufacturing our own hydraulic cylinders, marking the beginning of the company as it is today.
1980s
Jerzy bought the remaining shares of the company, becoming the sole share owner. The company also acquired its first NC machines. Towards the end of the decade the company had upgraded to computer controlled production, investing in 2-3 CNC machines.
1990s
We began expanding our CNC machinery steadily, year by year. Current Managing Director, Marek Lewandowski joined to focus on growing the hydraulic cylinder side of the business, and by the mid 90s cylinders became 100% of production. To facilitate the increased demand and offer a more comprehensive service, AH Garner invested in our own paint shop and Sierra skiving machine.
2014
The company heavily invested in facilities, adding an Audit lathe, 2 Hwacheons, and a Dah Lih. We also received an ISO 9001:2008 certificate.
2016
We received our ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
Today
Today we specialise in the supply of hydraulic cylinders to Original Equipment Manufacturers. With over 45 years’ experience in this field, we have a proven track record of quality and reliability.
Moving forwards, we recognise that the constantly increasing demands made both on and by OEMs require us to be progressive in our outlook and approach. Our programme of continuous investment and development is focused on enabling us to consistently provide the best solutions to those exacting standards.
